"Great place with fantastic decor; large bathrooms!"

The Altstadt's Hotel am Dom occupies a well-preserved 14th-century house not far from the Cathedral.
We found it simply divine: it's full of antiques and the staff is mega friendly.
Though am Dom's style seems a little jumbled, nothing feels fake or pretentious: the hallways are lined with sconces for real candles (not cheap electric ones), and there isn't an overkill attempt for "luxury". They have winding stone steps, wood-beamed ceilings, and an occasional stained glass window.
Taking inspiration from medieval architecture, Am Dom's 14 rooms are filled with traditional wooden handicrafts, small oil paintings, upholstered Victorian furniture, and a few retro adornments, such as frilly lampshades. Ceilings are covered with captivating, painted floral designs. There are a few less exciting rooms that have country-style blond-pine furniture. All rooms have unusually large bathrooms with mesmerizing colorful tiling. Only three rooms have televisions, so call ahead if you want the tube.
