Tucked away on a narrow street off Fleischmarkt, against the ancient Heiligenkruez the Austria Hotel offers a charming, quiet place to stay and engulf yourself in old Viennese history. The city's 12th-century fortified watchtowers stand directly opposite the hotel.

The Austria is virtually at the end of an alley, so rooms - no matter which side they face - are peaceful.

A sweeping staircase winds up from the charming reception room to a flower-filled terrace. Rooms are pleasing and have high ceilings, large windows, attractive curtains, and dark wooden furniture. Austria also offers an apartment with two bedrooms.
