In the Marais you will find trendy bars, hip nightclubs, and the Commines du Marais hostel. Within walking distance of the famous Picasso Musuem, the Commines offers quad rooms with new showers and snazzy wooden floors. Other room options are available, and guests receive keys so you can come and go as you please.
The hostel manager is incredibly friendly, and keeps the prices cheaper than most other budget options in this expensive city. Just don't expect any fancy renovations—the low prices are possible because the Commines is humble. The staff speaks Chinese, Cantonese, English, and French.

When we arrived we found it to be quite small. The person who was attending the office was really very nice and spoke English really well if that's something that's important to you. He gave us a printed map right away and highlighted the local grocery, along with a TON of information for any need including pharmacies and WIFI zone. He was really wonderful and helpful. There is no elevator and the stairway is right out of an M.C. Escher painting. Showers on alternating floors and bathrooms on the other alternating floors, so if you stay on the top floor (the 6th), then it's a long haul with your luggage and you have neither in the nearby. The place was clean and attended, but he was the only staff we saw. He was a lovely host and we would probably return. No curfew or problems, he gave us the security code to enter past hours. Really narrow hallways though so if you have wide luggage it would be a sufficient challenge to negotiate the hallways which fit no more than one person.

privacy, security and comfort, this place was a perfect ending to a long trip. very friendly staff and perfectly located.
The rooms were great and the owner is very accommodating. It is about one block from the Saint-Sebastian metro station, and there are many places nearby to eat. I will definitely stay there again. As an example of how great the owner is, I made a mistake in my reservation and we needed an extra night. Unfortunately, he was totally booked, but he took the time to help be book another place nearby, which was good because of the late notice. Thanks a lot and we'll see you again.

This is an okay hostel, run by a very nice owner. Rooms are reasonably sized with showers in them. Hair on mattresses and on floor. Also, most rooms are located on a busy street with loud traffic at most times of the day and night. Try and get a room that overlooks the courtyard.
