Property Description

The bed & breakfast 'Talking Stones' is situated in a small and calm street in the heart of the medieval village of Dolceacqua. it is an ancient house in stone completely renovated according to the criteria of the modern biedilizia and it has three rooms with bath, kitchen, balcony and garden.
From the balcony you have a magnificent sight of the ancient Castle of the Dorias, of the surrounding hills and of the layers of the Ligurian Alps.
The small garden, shaded by a beautiful lemon tree, is the ideal place for a rest on the warm summer days.
'Talking Stones', in the past, was the house of a country family that distilled the essence of lavender to sell it in the near Piedmont. The ground-floor of the house was changed into a stable where they still breed rabbits and the donkey sleeps..
Talking Stones, totally built with the stones of the river Nervia, that crosses the village, is a link that drives us from the past to the future.
The stones don't speak at night! But its owner, a German lady who has been living here for many talks about the origins of this place with pleasure.
The surrounding hills were inhabited by Celts, an Indo-European population that lived on sheep-rearing and breeding the bees in the outskirts of the country.
We do not know much about the people.
From them came to us, however, the names of a lot of places that derive from the words honey or bees, for instance the Mountain Melosa (mielosa) or Mountain Abeglio, in ligurian dialect still today the bees are called 'aveglia'.
In the Valley of Meraviglie (Parc du Mercantour ), are visible the archaeological rock engravings from the age of bronze; it is the greatest Celtic museum in the open air in Europe, a memory of our origins.
