"Madonna would love Locanda Salieri"

A tiny ceramic Madonna, mounted near the front door gives the Hotel Locanda Salieri the heavenly stamp of approval, so it's no surprise that it's one of Venice's jewels. You may even confuse it for a dollhouse with its chunky antiques and dark wood d?cor.

It's on the border of Santa Croce and Dorsoduro and only ten minutes from the station. Locanda Salieri's 11 rooms, are tiny, but radiate the finest of taste. The walls are clean white, the curtains are lacey, the floors have oriental rugs, and the bedding is pleasantly soft-colored.

More than half of the rooms have balconies that overlook the Canal del Gaffaro. Bathrooms are similarly small, also gleam in a palette of colorful tiles.
