Schermerstraat, Haarlem
PLEASE NOTE: The apartment is within 10 to 15 minutes walk from Haarlem Central Station, depending on the route you take, your age and how used to walking you are. However, if you are travelling with heavy/big luggage we strongly reccomend you take a taxi to the apartment as luggage can slow you down considerably and you may feel the distance is longer than what actually is. Fares from Haarlem Central Station range from 6 to 8 Euro.
DIRECTIONS
From the Tourist Information Office at the Train/Bus Central Station
? Make use of the route planner box by the Tourist Information Office. It may not be easy to spot. As you stand facing the door of the Tourist Information office, look to your right were the bicycle racks and the flower kiosk stand. The Street Planner is that cabin that looks like a phone box, on the wall of the station. Type in the apartment street name (Schermerstraat) and print out a map with the directions. Mind, the computer may not print out the optimal route. Once the map has been printed and you see the destination (Schermerstraat), follow whatever route you feel is the shortest to the apartment. The fastest way is via the Rozentraat, Kenaubrug/Kinderuisingel, Pieter Kiesstraat, cross the Zijlweg into Coornhertstraat, walk along the Coornhertstraat and take the second street to the right. That is the Schermerstraat. Walk till the end of Schermerstraat and you will be at your destination.
? Alternatively, follow the route through the city centre - it will take longer to get to the apartment but it is an easier, panoramic route to take, especially the first time around. From the Tourist Information office: walk along the Kruisweg in the direction of the city centre till you reach the Grote Markt (old town square). As you stand facing the front of the old Town Hall, look to your right. The street on the right of the Old Town Hall is called Zijlstraat. Walk along the Zijlstraat; pass the Nassaulaan traffic lights, till you reach the Leidse Vaart canal. Cross the Zijlbrug (Zijl Bridge). The modern building with the colourful, psychedelic colour entrance is the New Town hall. The big road with shops to the right of the Town Hall is called Zijlweg. Walk along the Zijlweg till you reach Coornhertstraat (the fourth street to the left starting from the Town Hall building). You will know you are on the right way if you have passed a computer shop, a pharmacy, a flower shop and you have reached a tobacconist/newspaper shop: that is the corner of Coornhertstraat. Walk along the Coornhertstraat and take the second street to the right. That is the Schermerstraat. Walk till the end of the Schermerstraat and you will be at your destination.
? During the day. Ask the Tourist Information for directions to the Schermerstraat. They will be able to give you full directions to the street.
