Frequently Asked Questions

Ok. You’ve taken the first step. Maybe you’re just confused by something on the site or your confirmation number vanished into thin air. You need answers now. To begin the support process, simply choose an area with which you're having difficulties. And, remember, you’re not alone.

1) How do I make a booking?

You need a valid Visa or MasterCard credit card or debit card to book online. Your credit card will be charged for a 10% deposit (down payment) and a booking fee (US $2.00). Once you have selected your destination, preferred hostel, number of people and number of nights, you will be prompted for your credit card details in order to confirm the booking. You will receive an on-screen confirmation of your reservation which you should print and bring to the hostel. The balance due when you arrive at the hostel will be clearly displayed on your booking confirmation. It will always be in the local currency of the hostel.

2) Do I need a credit card to reserve a room?

Yes, you must have a valid credit or debit card to book and reserve a room. We accept Visa and MasterCard. Please check hostel details to find out whether they accept credit cards on arrival. Most hostels will accept debit cards unless otherwise specified.

3) Can you give me contact details before I book?

No, we do not provide contact information for hostels before you book with them. You will receive complete directions to the hostel including up-to-date contact information, a current email address and a telephone number, when you receive your booking confirmation.

4) Can you resend my confirmation?

By booking through EuropeanHostels.com, you automatically become a member and can access your saved trips and itineraries anytime. As a precaution, we also store all of your bookings in your personalized online travel itinerary planner, “my account”. Please log on to our site to find your saved bookings.  Note: Once you click the “Confirm” button—at the time of booking—it should only take a few seconds to receive an on-screen confirmation of your reservation. If you click the confirm button more than once, you will be charged more than once. Also, due to the nature of the individual e-mail servers, sometimes confirmation e-mails will not be received. Make sure you haven’t misspelled your email address. If you’re still having trouble, please contact us here.

5) I need to change my reservation. What do I do?

Whether you booked the wrong room type or want to change the dates of your stay—or the number of people you’re traveling with, you will always need to contact the property directly in order to request any change to an existing reservation. Contact details are clearly noted on your confirmation e-mail. Please quote your booking reference number in any correspondence with the hostel. Acceptance of any changes is at the sole discretion of the hostel. If a change is not possible, your deposit and booking fee are still non-refundable.

6) Do hostels have age restrictions?

While most hostels do not impose an age restriction, this is not always the case, particularly in establishments which have a bar on the premises. Again, it is recommended that you check the hostel’s details to find out whether or not there is an age restriction. Hostels that do restrict guests with a minimum or maximum age limit should clearly display this information. Normally, it is 18-35 years old.

7) Do I need to be a member to stay in a hostel?

No. You do not need to be a member in order to stay in a hostel. Some hostels do offer discounts for various card-holding members, but membership is never a requirement.

8) I forgot my username and/or password. Can you help?

Don’t worry. Simply click the "Forgot your password?" link under the "my account" tab.  Then follow the on-screen instructions in order to retrieve your username and/or password.

9) Do hostel owners pay to be listed on your site?

No. Hostel owners need not pay to be listed on our site. This service is free of charge.
