I just booked a flight to Rome (Fiumicino) for late March and will be there for a week. I'm planning on going to the forum, vatican, and the other "big" sites, but if anyone has tips of other things to see or daytrips that are nearby, plase let me know.

Oh, jealous!! You can easily hit up Florence from Rome. It's about a 2 hour drive. I suggest hitting a few villages too.

If you can swing it, try to head to the eastern shore and visit villages on the Adriatic. There not as touristy as the west coast but equally as gorgeous.

Go to the village of Pompeii! It's crazy -- a volcano destroyed it two thousand years ago and you can visit the whole city today. It's a daytrip from Rome. i didn't get there when I was in Rome and I'm still upset!
