   Wondering what it's like to stay in dormitories? xxx worries - EuropeanHostels.com has you covered!
   
   Dormitories are often, but not absolutely always, separated by sex. There are typically between 2 and 10 people sharing a room with bunk beds. However, there are occassionally very large dorm-style rooms that sleep up to 30 people -- this isn't commonplace, but sometimes occurs, particularly during peak seasons. Many hostels now offer private rooms, as well as rooms with smaller dorms (4-6 beds) which can be booked by an entire group so that your group has the room exclusively. And, some are not unlike hotels in that they offer private single, twin and double and even triple rooms with en suite bathroom facilities.
   
   While it's custom to remain as quiet as possible at night at all hostels, you should expect a small amount of noise from your fellow hostel occupants. Quite a bit depends on the location of the hostel. If you are visiting a major city you should expect noise in the form of traffic, street cleaning trucks, and people—all the usual stuff. Many hostels in the country, however, are so quiet you can hear your heart beat. As always, if you are concerned about such things it's best to ask other travelers that have been there and to read EuropeanHostel’s user reviews.

   There are a couple things I'd add to this: 1.) dorms are great if you're traveling with a few friends. You can get super cheap deals and frequently all stay in the same room. 2.) Conversely, if you're traveling solo and wind up in a big dorm, it could be a bit irritating. I've stayed solo in 4 person dorms and have had a great experience with interesting people, but I've also stayed in 20 person dorms and barely slept a wink. Always do your research!

   Yeah, I'd say if you plan to party - dorms are the way to go. If you need your shut-eye, you might want to consider getting a private room or a smaller bedded room.
   
   Dorm-style hostels usually generate a really fun environment. I've made lots of friends just by having to "bunk up" with them.

   If you want to do Europe for cheap - dorms are the way to go. It's like having the college experience - except you don't have to pay as much!
