Around Gare du Nord

The city's northern train station, the Gare du Nord is located about 10-15 minutes north of the Grand Place by foot. The area is dominated by large stores, movie theaters, and offices. It's not a terribly exciting area, but it does tend to be affordable.

Ixelles

Intersected by Brussel's shopping paradise, the Avenue Louise, the Ixelles neighborhood is a trendy commercial district with galleries and shops galore. The area is also home to many small, family-run B&Bs.

Near the Grand Place

Brussels’ main square, the Grand Place dates back to the middle ages and boasts the centuries-old Town Hall. This area is the tourist heart of the city, with guild houses and Gothic architecture providing perfect snapshot material. Around the Grand Place, plenty of cafes, chocolate shops, and hotels keep things bustling. Head west of the square to find cobblestone streets leading to the Bourse building.
