Around Central Dublin

Located southeast of Dublin’s center and north of the Grand canal, this area is largely residential. Commercial attractions are limited to a swanky set of shops on Baggot Street and international restaurants and stores on Richmond Street.

Christ Church Cathedral

South of the Liffey River, the area around Dublin’s Christ Church Cathedral is full of tourist attractions. First, there’s the Christ Church Cathedtal itself, dating back to the 11th century and boasting a pretty green lawn. Other top draws include the Dublin Castle and the Guinness Brewery.

Gardiner Street Lower

Just north of the Liffey River, lower Gardiner Street is crowded with accommodation options. The main perk of this hood is proximity: Henry Street and O’Connell Street (known for shopping) are nearby, as are Dublin’s two main train stations. Walk further north and you’ll run into largely residential territory.

St. Stephen's Green

St. Stephen’s Green sits just south of Dublin’s center. The area is a calm, quiet, and green respite from the city’s bustle—and just one of many parks in this hood. In addition to lovely outdoor areas, you’ll find posh residences and stately mansions. Head north of the Green to find plenty of shops and bars.

Temple Bar & Trinity College

One of Dublin’s most central and touristy hoods, the Temple Bar area is hopping with Irish pubs and crowded with revelers. Just to the east, the famous Trinity College adds a scholarly dash to an otherwise party-hard scene.
