One of four RT hotels in Krakow, RT Monopol is our favorite of the bunch. Located on busy ul. Sw. Gertrudy, the RT Monopol has 75 plain, but comfortable rooms.
Bedspreads are the cinnamon colored; wall-to-wall carpets are creamier in hue. Furniture is cherry-brown. Rooms tend to be on the spacious side. The effect is faux-antique -- la Ethan Allen, disturbed only by plastic bedside lamps. Bathrooms sport neutral tiles.
Overall, if you need aesthetic excitement or adhere to a tight budget, the RT Monopol is not for you. But if a certain assurance of a midrange hotel with standard amenities, service, and comfort is important to you, the RT Monopol fits the bill.
And who can resist the stairs leading from the lobby, in their pure late-1980s elegance? We found the chrome banisters and reproduction oriental carpets especially fetching.
