Central Station & Drottninggatan

Norrmalm is home to Stockholm’s central station and numerous shopping opportunities (mostly along the busy Drottninggatan). Plenty of cultural attractions are found here as well, from the Kulturhuset to the Sweden House to the Royal opera.

Old Town

Also known as Stockholm’s Old Town, Gamla Stan is filled with lovely old buildings and charmingly narrow streets. The former royal residence and numerous churches are found here as well. Gamla Stan is bordered by Södermalm to the south and Norrmalm to the north.

Outer Stockholm

Hostels in this hood are located on the outskirts of town and may or may not be accessible by public transportation.

Södermalm

Located south of central Stockholm, Södermalm is one of the city’s hippest hoods. You’ll find street after street packed with trendy clothing and record shops, along with plenty of edgy bars and eateries. The southern edge of the neighborhood is filled with apartment buildings and no shortage of smutty shops.

Vasastaden

A quiet, sophisticated neighborhood, Vasastaden sits north of Stockholm’s main train station. The area is full of parks and cafes, though cultural attractions are scarce. Head to Sveavägen for the hood’s hippest offerings.
