At the Journey's Kings Cross, you'd better be a fan of purple and orange, because just about everything throughout the hostel, from bedroom walls to awnings, is decorated in this color combination.
The 88 beds of Journey all come with sheets and sterling metal frames. A plus are the few double rooms that Journey offers in addition to the dorm-style rooms. The smoker's patio is the hip hangout with a sunroof and sits right off the television lounge, where there's a cozy couch and Internet station. A fun mix of bean bags and red walls with a stereo accompanies the coolness. We dig it.
Journey's is surrounded by Internet cafes, coffee shops, and African restaurants so you don't have to visit the strip clubs and gaming centers that formerly populated the area if that's not your scene.
In exchange of high price, 27 pounds per bed, we got a messy room with smoking roomate, who are not the first time to offend the non-smoking rule. I don't think the hostel quite hold on to their rule.
The acoustic is poor, the room has only a line of high window open to the street. If we closed the window, the ventilation would be so bad. So we had to tolerate the noisy car passing-by at night when we'd like to sleep.
