The 160-bed Barcelona Mar, located near the Rambla del Raval in the Barri Gotic, is a supremely friendly hostel with a laid-back atmosphere. Staff go out of their way to help curious travelers explore the city. The hostel is clean by even the pickiest standards: guests will see the staff cleaning all day.

The neighborhood has a "red-light" aspect, and may appear to be slightly dodgy at night, but for the most part is perfectly safe and full of character. Most famous attractions are only a five minute walk. The hostel is wheelchair-accessible, has no curfew, and rents bicycles! Breakfast is included.
