Hostal Gat Xino, a two-star hostal with 35 luxurious, but minimal rooms which are hip and modern. They're all outfitted with flat-screen televisions, firm comfy beds, and clean, attractive works of art. All rooms have spiffy contemporary bathrooms which stay in the "hip" style of things with vertical mirror lighting and painted floors.
But, for those of us who don't necessarily like to live on the edge, the neighborhood, down Calle Hospita,l is a blend super run-down with some cool parts to it. This could be the downside which may draw you away. It's a hefty six blocks from La Rambla so you'll need to drag your luggage from the Metro for five to ten minutes. Nonetheless, Calle Hospital is an exciting, busy area with a prominent immigrant residential base which greatly contributes to the commerce of this 'hood. There are a lot of restaurants in the area, plus small convenience stores and cafes. Plaza Catalunya is not far away.
Breakfast is in an open dining room that looks onto a wooden terrace with trees and potted flowers. Wi-Fi is accessible throughout the hostal, nearby parking is available, and a fun chill-out lounge on the roof is there for your enjoyment.
