  • Los Amigos Opera Backpackers Hostel is located in Puera del Sol, Madrid's historic center. Inside you will find a clean hostel with an easy going vibe fit for a backpacker. No curfew, but you will need to rent a towel if you're not bringing your own. Breakfast is included in your bill.

  • I've been at alot of hostels around Europe as I'm doing the typical backpacking trip. I've had a wonderful experience in every hostel, receiving my recommendations from Lonely Planet (which never fail), as they've been quite beautiful as well. More importantly the atmosphere at each has been wonderfully relaxed, friendly, ESPECIALLY by the staff. Here, as the place is nice.

While is is not the cheapest hostel around it has some pluses like wi-fi and a kitchen. On the downside though it is quite strict. Quiet hours, closing of the kitchen and living room areas, are heavily enforced to be out of five minutes before closing. More than anything, check out can be an unpleasant experience for those who had a late night. Don't expect to have leniency in the slightest.

They hold a deposit of yours and use it as a threat if you do not leave on time, no exceptions, regardless of whether the place is booked or not. They will come to wake you up after 11:00 (checkout time) to tell you to pack your things and go. There, I received the impression that I was just another customer to them, nothing more. This place has a good reputation because it was started by a backpacker who should know about these things, but I know I certainly didn't get that impression. I

  • The Los Amigos hostel was fun and cozy, with a lot of people to meet hanging out in the common room in the evening, and a pretty much ideal location for sightseeing or night-lifing in the city. The staff sometimes seemed a little clueless (or unavailable), but nothing awful. And the lockers are right in the room with you, so no need to leave the room to get to your valuables. Overall a good stay.
