• Situated in a historic building that recently underwent some impressive renovations, Hostelling International New York still manages to preserve a charm that captures hearts ? and young backpackers.
  
  The building has brick archways that tower overhead and remind one of a wine cellar. Despite its enormity it still feels intimate. Two-toned rooms are made up of metal bunks with new mattresses (8-inches thick), bunk lights, Berber carpets, and AC units.
  
  The big plusses of HINY are the tours throughout the city that can be booked through the hostel staff, including a $10, 16-hour tour beginning in Harlem and ending with in an evening stroll across the Brooklyn Bridge, and a discount to the gym nearby.
