Adjacent to Central Park, the International Student Center stays lively despite its no visitor policy and 35-year-old age limit utilizing the youthful energy that surrounds the place. Housed in a four-floor brownstone, rooms are pretty big for hostel standards, but still outfitted with the traditional wooden bunks. There are three 10-bed dorms which are co-ed and two other dorms, each with eight beds that provide female-only accommodations. The basement lounge is quite impressive. A large-screen TV is complimented by bookshelves filled with National Geographic magazines and books. The guest kitchen is just as astonishing with a large dining table that gives off a great sense of community.

About the International Student Center neighborhood
Largely a residential area, the Upper West Side is packed with attractive brownstones and high-rises. The neighborhood boasts the Museum of Natural History and the Hayden Planetarium along with easy access to Central Park. Further north is Harlem, a lively and historic hood increasingly popular with visitors to the city.
