Located right off Mehringdamm, the Hotel Transit is very near the bars, restaurants, cafes and shops of central Kreuzberg. It caters to its name, providing rooms for travelers "in transit" since 1990.
In the early days, Transit appealed to a younger, backpacker crowd. Now, with private facilities available in every room, it appeals to a wider span of customers.
Like a lot of the hostels and pensions in Berlin, Transit is located in an old, kooky converted factory. The third and fourth floors were once part of an old cigarette factory in central Kreuzberg. The vast lobby has a funky edge, with cool painted murals, seating areas, and a full bar. The factory-feel remains with giant windows that give the lobby a light-flooded beauty.
Rooms are tight, but still simple and attractive - white beds, light blue shelving, navy curtains with matching carpets, and small tables with two red chairs. The bathrooms are also clean and chic, with white tiles and nice showers.
