  • Despite the somewhat dreary decor and dated furnishings of the Harding Hotel, we find ourselves a little attached. Maybe it's the amazing views of Christ Church Cathedral which well over half of its 53 rooms present. Or, the red brick edifice that is pleasantly "Dublin," with intricate stone trim around the windows and an arched entryway. Maybe it's the welcoming, amiable staff, wheelchair accessibility and a dozen international flags that give a warm cultural greeting. Whatever it may be, Harding has our hearts.

Even though Harding sadly wasn't influenced by the gorgeous gothic design of its Cathedral neighbor, its rooms are clean and comfy, with cheerful bedspreads and wood furniture that will make you nostalgic for your aunt's late '80s spare bedroom. Sure, some of the chairs are a little tattered on the edges, the clean carpet is a little dingy, and the bathroom fixtures are kind of boring—a little renovation with new furnishings and fabrics wouldn't hurt anyone. But run back to that window that looks over the churchyard, and you'll remember exactly why you're staying here.

The hotel's inviting pub and its more distinguished "bistro" restaurant both offer hearty Irish and International meals. The restaurant offers a 9 euro early bird dinner special and extensive selection of wine, so if you're into wining and dining, it's definitely something to consider. English and continental breakfasts are also available, but not included in the room price.
