Located in the center of "Bohemian Barcelona" this one-star hostel on Calle Joaquin Costa is in the middle of all the action with bars, intellectual cafes, and other fabulous sights (like the CCCB Museum right around the corner) closeby.
Leave it to the professional architects who own the joint. The Gat Raval is a new breed of hostel: sleek, modern, efficient, and fun. The mission of the operation? To provide everything the budget-weary traveler needs in a clean, cool atmosphere for a fair price.
Rooms are simple with unique touches and a minimalist, avant-garde look. They come equipped with white beds and artistically illuminated headboards. All 26 rooms have air conditioning and many have balconies! Wi-Fi is available throughout the hotel and some double rooms also have a flat-screen television for your enjoyment.
The one drawback is the lack of an elevator and the dimly-lit stairwell (which is a disappointment compared to the bright and pleasing style of the hostel otherwise) doesn't alleviate getting up the stairs any. The area also isn't easily accessible to the Metro, so be prepared to walk a few blocks or fork over a few extra euros to take a cab.
If you're into getting to know what a city is "really" like, the Gat Raval is a great place to stay. It's where students meet after classes (the University is in this area), and trendy cafes and Falafel stands litter the streets.
