"Overly ornate, but still a gem."

The Hotel Continental Palacete, a 19th-century art nouveau mansion along the ritzy Rambla de Catalunya (just two blocks north of Placa Catalunya), is definitely not your average three-star hotel.

The mission of Hotel Continental Palacete is to make guests feel as if they were in their own "little palace" in Barcelona. Did they succeed? Well?

The Continental Palacete is undoubtedly fun. You feel like royalty when you walk into the mansion and then climb a majestic staircase to reach a lobby dripping with decorations. Chandeliers race for space on the ceiling, surfaces are painted in gold, and what isn't gold is adorned with green floral fabric.

The 22 rooms have all the essentials fit for a king (or queen!), from individual climate controls to microwave ovens. And don't worry - the rooms are as overly embellished as the lobby.

Food and drinks are provided all day long with a 24-hour buffet, free of charge. You can also sometimes find a little surprise waiting for you as the owner loves to cook and every so often leaves delicious dinners out on the buffet for guests.
