"Charming place with lots of ambiance, and plenty o' light!"

Our hearts went pitter-patter for the super-welcoming, 20-room Hotel Accademia in the heart of busy, multiethnic San Lorenzo. Here the outdoor kebab stands and Asian markets provide a fun contrast to the classic Florentine ambiance inside.

Light streams in along the corridors, and numerous cozy common spaces make you feel at home in this 14th-century palazzo. The onetime home of artist Bernardo Cennini, its arches and marbled, painted walls maintain an arty feel.

Rooms are decorated in dark wood and red brocade. Ceilings are elegantly high. Large reproductions of Michelangelo and Rafael add a fun feel to the place. Blue-and white tiled bathrooms are big and clean.

Signora Chimente has been running the place for over 20 years, and couldn't be cuter. She runs an artful palazzo.
